Dorcas Craigie April 2, 1932-January 7, 2022
Dorcas was born in 1932 in Dundee, Scotland daughter of James and Elizabeth Craigie. She proved to be small in stature but mighty in spirit.
She eventually joined family in Canada coming to settle in Orillia. She became a citizen in 1980. However, she remained proud of her Scottish heritage and accent.
Dorcas became part of a group of young people at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and formed friendships that lasted through many years. She joined the choir at St. Andrew’s and remained a faithful member for several decades and formed even more friendships over those years.
She worked for a local dentist and attained her “certification in dental assisting” in 1962. In 1973 she received a certificate from Georgian College as a Visiting Homemaker and then received certification from The St. John’s Ambulance as a Home Nurse. Through the years, Dorcas endeared herself to many families in Orillia as she helped care for both their younger and older family members.
Dorcas enjoyed athletic activities ready to take on just about any challenge - even motorcycle riding. She earned both the Yellow and Orange Belt in Judo. She had a particular love for swimming and this continued into her later years with her participation in the aqua-fit program at the Y. She enjoyed hiking trails and she walked everywhere. She held a deep love for animals - especially her cats and her friends’ dogs.
Dorcas was predeceased by her parents and her sisters - May, Irene and Betty and brothers - Jim, Danny, Angus, Alistair and Andrew. She will be fondly remembered by nieces and nephews and their families and her many friends.
A Celebration of life Service will be held at a later time at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Orillia. If desired, Memorial Donations to Orillia Presbyterian Church (St.Andrew's) or Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Mundell Funeral Home.
